Introduction
This article aims at listing and describing all the remotes in the Amino portfolio.
Usually, these remotes also allow the control of additional devices besides the AminoVU STB ( Set-Top-Box) . You can find all the necessary instructions to configure such remotes on this guide.
Most of our remotes use infrared technology to communicate with the STB. IR signals can only travel short distances (usually less than 10 meters), and cannot go through walls or other solid objects. Therefore please consider you must point the remote directly at the devices, making sure no objects are blocking the line of sight.
Types of remotes
Currently Amino offers different types of remotes:
BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) + Infrared:
- Mini
- Maxi
Infrared only:
- Oak
- Birch
- Willow
- Nova
Also refereed on this guide, are the following remote models, which are now discontinued:
- Stylus
- URC
Each model has its own capabilities and features. While some allow you to control your TV in simultaneous, others allow for a BLE connection with your STB.
As the configuration varies depending on the model, here follows a brief introduction and a basic configuration guide for each one of them.
Maxi
The Maxi remote is currently offered in two flavours. One to use with our conventional AminoOS Enable (Linux) STBs and other to use with our AminoOS Apollo (Android) ones.
Both versions support BLE as well and infrared and you can easily change between modes.
Maxi Linux version on the left. Maxi Android version on the right.
Both these remotes came out of the box, setup to work in BLE mode, which means that as soon as you press any key, they will enter pairing mode. You should make sure the STB is also set to pairing mode.

Oak
The Oak remote is, currently, the standard remote shipping with our Set-Top-Boxes. Besides allowing full control of your STB this remote can also be configured to work with your TV.
This remote can also be programmed to operate certain functions of your TV set. To programme this functionality please perform the following instructions. In case of mistake, the process can be exited at any point by pressing and holding the TEXT/SHIFT button and at the same time pressing the STOP button. The remote control will revert to normal operation and no TV brand code will be stored.
Please be aware this process may take a long time to find your TV code (in some cases, up to 5 minutes).
- Make sure your TV set is turned ON.
- Press and hold the 1 and 3 buttons at the same time on the remote control for approximately 3 seconds until the TV standby button remains lit, then release both buttons.
- When the TV either turns OFF or bring up the MUTE symbol on the screen, release either the TV standby or the MUTE button. Remember, this may take up to 5 minutes to happen.
- Press and hold the TEXT/SHIFT button and at the same time press the STOP button to finish setting up the TV control mode. The TV standby button will go out. The TV control function is now programmed into the remote control.

If Auto-Search can not set up the TV set, then the remote is unable to control that particular TV set.

Key Learning
The Nova remote has the capability of learning new keys from other remotes. This allows us to control devices not originally designed for this remote control, creating increased support for multiple devices. The NOVA remote can receive and store codes transmitted by another device remote control.
In order to "teach" the Nova remote, you will need to align it with the "teacher" remote, e.g. TV/DVD. The remotes should face each other by the IR blaster (usually at the top of the remote) and should be no more than 5 centimetres apart during the learning procedure.
The learning operation is initialized as follows:
- Press the SETUP key until MODE key blinks 2 times.
- Press the following key sequence to enter learning mode: 9, 7, 5 (LED will blink if successful).
- Press the MODE key you want to set up, i.e. TV/DVD/AUX.
- Press the key to be learned on the NOVA remote. LED will flash rapidly.
- Hold teaching remote close to IR LED and press key to be taught.
- LED goes out. Continue to press teaching key until double blink from the visible LED.
- Repeat steps 2 through 5 to set up all the desired keys (up to memory limit).
- Exit learning mode by pressing SETUP.
