Introduction

Dear Valued Amino Customer,

This message is to serve as notice that Amino that Amino has been alerted to certain scenarios which may cause excessive wear to the Hard Disk Drive fitted to certain Amulet 7XM devices leading to premature failure of the device.

Prerequisites

This article assumes that you have an Amino Amulet 7XM.

Summary

The Amulet 7XM supports Whole Home PVR and Pause Live TV features with the Hard Disk Drives in these devices to support a reasonable number of hours of continuous recording, which is limited by the Hard Disk Drive specification. Our attention has been drawn to deployments in which the middleware configuration will lead to the devices continually recording 24x7 and therefore lead to premature failure of the Hard Disk Drive.

Amino requires that all operators using Amulet 7XM configure middleware to ensure reasonable usage of the Hard Disk Drive. Two features common in middleware solutions that significantly impact the recording time and therefore duty-cycle on the HDD are automatic stand-by on idle and automatic recording on tuning to a channel. Amino strongly recommend that all operators deploying Amulet 7XMs check the configuration of their middleware platform and ensure that these devices are operated within the above design specification.
