Introduction
This article aims to show you the Amulet 7XM PVR and Pause Live TV recommendation.
Certain scenarios may cause excessive wear to the Hard Disk Drive fitted to certain Amulet 7XM devices leading to premature failure of the device.
Prerequisites
Operators deploying the Amulet 7XM and using Whole Home PVR and Pause Live TV.
Summary
Following the Amulet 7XM Advisory, we strongly recommend that all operators deploying the Amulet 7XM and using Whole Home PVR and Pause Live TV ensure that their systems are configured as below.
Please note that failing to configure devices as specified leading to excessive load on HDDs may invalidate the warranty of the device.
Recommendation - Minerva
Minerva systems should be configured to enable Automatic Standby.
- On Minerva 5.7 this can be done by enabling standby timeout, standby_timeout_period, and standby_dialog_period in thinkstuff.
- On Minerva 8.2.2 systems, this can be done by enabling screensaver. enable, screensaver. timeout, screensaver.duration.videostop, screensaver.duration.show and screensaver.duration.countdown.
Questions about this configuration or how to make these changes should be referred to Minerva.
Implementing this recommendation means PLTV will stop when the STB enters standby, reducing the load on the HDD. It also means a change in user experience, where a pop-up message will be shown for the user to confirm that they are still watching TV.
Recommendation - Amino
Amino devices should be configured with the following STB INI parameters.
- HD260_MV_HDD_PLT_ENABLE_SIZE="1,1000" to the Amulet7xM group.
This option specifics a storage size between 1GB to 1000GB (1TB) for local PVR. PLTV would only start when the user presses the PAUSE button.
Implementing this means that PLTV will not start until PAUSE is pressed. This will greatly reduce the load on the HDD. It also means a change in user experience, where a user will not be able to rewind on a LIVE channel unless PLTV has been started. Please contact Amino support if you require any assistance to implement this change.
